Hemp Flower 101

If you’d like to reap the benefits of CBD without its psychoactive effects, hemp flower may be the ultimate solution. While it’s not as popular as other CBD-infused products like tinctures and edibles, it may satisfy your needs. Let’s dive deeper into what hemp flower is and how you may benefit from it.

Hemp vs. Marijuana

When you picture marijuana, the “high” it often brings is likely the first thought that comes to mind. While hemp flower may bring you a sense of relaxation and help you unwind from everyday life, it won’t make you feel “high” like marijuana. This is because legal hemp buds are high in CBD but low in THC or the chemical that leads to the psychological effects of marijuana.

You may be surprised to learn that on average, marijuana contains 5% to 20% THC content while legal hemp has a maximum THC level of 0.3%. Hemp also has a different look than marijuana. Marijuana leaves are usually broad. Hemp flower, however, features thinner leaves that are concentrated at the top. From afar, hemp is skinny and tall while marijuana resembles a short, stubby bush.

When it comes to the cultivation of hemp flower and marijuana, there are differences as well. Hemp is grown close together in multi-acre plots in a variety of climates with a growth cycle of 108 to 120 days. In order for marijuana to grow properly, it needs to be in a warm, carefully controlled environment.
